During his time at Rowland, Rob was engaged to develop bid documentation for Gold Coast City’s bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games Federation set precise requirements and timeframes to deliver a 240-page document with supplementary maps, profiles and promotional collateral. Gold Coast City was competing against one other proposed host city — Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

A a 240-page bid document delivered on time that secured the Gold Coast and Australia the 2018 Commonwealth Games
The strategy was to develop a compelling narrative which positively positioned Gold Coast City as the best candidate to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Our team was responsible for researching content, copywriting and editing content in the Bid Book, while the creative team worked closely with the bid team’s technical and marketing personnel, reporting to the bid leader, to ensure the submitted collateral was compliant and incorporated both the Games branding elements and Gold Coast City’s brand values.
The creative team also developed a hard-case concept that could hold two spiral bound documents as one ‘bid book’. The clean design was developed to suit the logo device and ensure it did not detract from the written content and tables.
The bid book was delivered on time, and presented by then Queensland Premier Anna Bligh to the Commonwealth Games Federation, and subsequently helped to secure the 2018 Commonwealth Games for Gold Coast City.
